Hopewell Valley Soccer Association hosted first evening youth soccer camp

by MercerMe Staff

This summer, the Hopewell Valley Soccer Association held their first annual evening Hopewell Valley Youth Soccer Camp, offering boys and girls, of all skill levels ages 6 to 14, an opportunity to further develop and improve their soccer skills. Each camper was grouped by age, ability, and playing experience. The program aims to build player confidence by helping each student achieve success at their own individual level, training with an emphasis on developing individual technical skills together and an understanding of the tactical aspects of the game. Sessions consisted of an active warm-up and technical skills introduction / practice followed by a progression of small-sided activities and games designed to encourage the player’s application of technical skills.

The Hopewell Valley Youth Soccer Camp was led by HVCHS Head Girls Soccer Coach John McGinley and HVCHS Head Boys Soccer Coach Ed Gola along with members of the girls and boys varsity HS soccer teams offering a small camper-staff ratio creating a safe and fun environment helping ensure that every player receives individual attention.

This was a unique opportunity to get an in depth look at what it is like to play at the highest level of interscholastic soccer, receive instruction from varsity coaching staff, play on the Ackerson Turf Field, and work with members of the girls and boys varsity soccer teams.
