HT Mayor Courtney Peters-Manning’s June message to the community (video with transcript)

by Community Contributor

I’m Hopewell Township Mayor Courtney Peters-Manning with your video update for June. The New Jersey primary election is on Tuesday, June 7. Please participate in our democracy and vote!

Early voting takes place Friday, June 3 through Sunday, June 5. Hours are Friday and Saturday, 10am-8pm, and Sunday 10am-6pm. There are six early voting locations in Mercer County, and any Mercer County voter can vote at any of the six locations. The closest one to Hopewell Township is at the Pennington Fire Company on Broemel Place.

Because of the Primary election, our Township meetings will be shifted this month to Monday the 13th and Monday the 27th at 6:30pm. As of right now, both meetings will be in-person at the Township building as well as streamed via Zoom. Links will be available on the Township website.

I would like to wish a very happy Father’s Day to all of the Dads and father figures who will be celebrating this month.

June also is LGBTQ+ Pride month. We will be having a Pride flag raising on June 1 at 5:30pm in front of the municipal building, and a proclamation will be on our agenda at the June 13 meeting.

On June 19, we celebrate Juneteenth, which is a federal holiday commemorating the freedom of the last enslaved people in the United States, who were emancipated in Texas in 1865, more than two years after the emancipation proclamation. We will have a proclamation at our meeting on June 13, and there are several local events happening over that weekend. Check out MercerMe’s calendar, the Outdoor Equity Alliance, and the Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum website for details.

Finally, the Hopewell Valley Veterans Association will be putting on their hugely popular 4th of July concert, car show, and fireworks display on Sunday, June 26th at Woolsey Park. It is not to be missed!

Thank you all for listening, stay safe, and enjoy the warmer weather.  Summer is almost here!
