HVRSD Moving Toward Inquiry Based Classrooms, Learn More at Upcoming PTO Meetings

by Mary Galioto

Over the course of the next several weeks, HVRSD Superintendent Thomas Smith and Assistant Superintendent, Christine Laquidara, will visit school PTO meetings to provide parents with an update of the District’s plan to improve the way education is delivered in classrooms and its efforts to give more insight into the learning process.  Specifically, the HVRSD plans to move toward a more student-centered / inquiry-based classroom environment across K-12, in order to foster learning and improve student engagement.  This move will help students develop important skills, such as critical and creative thinking, collaboration, and information/technology literacy so that they will be competitive on a global scale. The meeting dates are:

Hopewell Elementary – 10/14 @ 7:00 pm

Stony Brook – 10/15 @ 9:00 am

Bear Tavern – 10/21 @ 7:00 pm

Central High School – 10/22 @ 8:00 am

Timberlane – 11/2 @ 9:00 am

A video presentation will be available on the district website in mid-December for parents who could not attend one of the meetings.
