HVRSD plans for a traditional 2021-22 school year

by Community Contributor

The following letter was sent to Hopewell Valley Regional School District families Wednesday, June 9:

Dear HVRSD School Community:

As the school year draws to a close, I would like to thank you again for your patience, flexibility, and support as we navigated countless challenges. I am incredibly proud of the efforts of our staff to provide a meaningful educational experience for both our in-person and remote learners. These past days have reminded us of what our schools looked like pre-COVID. Despite the unique challenges they have faced this year, our students continue to shine.

As of today, the majority of our faculty and many students 12+ are fully vaccinated. We will continue to partner with our local health departments to provide vaccines, as they become available, to a wider age range. Thanks to the efforts of so many, our mitigation strategies have proven effective and as a result, we have had more in-person days than any surrounding school district.

Our expectation for the 2021-2022 school year is for all students to return to a traditional in-person, full-day learning schedule. While remote learning has many benefits, in-person learning allows us to better address the social and emotional needs of our students and to effectively build a classroom and school community.  In the absence of a State directive, remote learning will only be provided if there is a significant, documented circumstance that requires this accommodation.

We are finalizing our NJDOE required Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Service plan and we will provide updates over the summer, as necessary, via email and on our district website, www.hvrsd.org. Due to the volatility of COVID, our plans are subject to change at any time.

Thank you for your partnership as we close out the 2020-21 school year. Please enjoy the last few days of school and I hope you all have a safe, healthy, and restful summer.
Sincerely,
Thomas A. Smith, Ed.D.,Superintendent of Schools
