HVRSD Superintendent leaving for new job in Bucks County

Dr. Thomas Smith

Bucks Local News published the announcement this morning that the Hopewell Valley Regional School District Superintendent, Dr. Thomas Smith, is the finalist in the Pennsbury School District’s search for a new superintendent. The full story is here.

This evening, Dr. Smith emailed the following letter to HVRSD families:

Dear Hopewell Valley School Community:

Let me begin by again expressing my sincere thanks for your efforts to support our students, particularly over this challenging past year.

As you may be aware, it has been released that I am a finalist for a superintendent position in another school district, pending approval by their Board of Directors. Please know that after twelve years as Hopewell Valley’s Superintendent of Schools, this was a very difficult decision for me. I feel honored to be a part of HVRSD, and it is with mixed feelings that I leave this wonderful community. I have truly enjoyed my time in the Hopewell Valley Regional School District and working with so many outstanding staff members, Board members, and families, yet I am looking forward to new experiences and opportunities.

We have faced many challenges over the past twelve years, but we met them head-on with determination and collaboration.  Our students continue to succeed and achieve on the county, state, and national levels, but it has been our focus on the whole child, particularly prioritizing our students’ social and emotional health, that makes Hopewell Valley special. Our staff is student-focused, innovative, and remains amongst the finest in the nation. Thanks to a supportive parent community, our schools, and facilities, as well as our equity and environmental efforts, will have lasting positive impacts on our students and our community.

The Hopewell Valley Regional School District holds an outstanding strategic position. With a great reputation, a strong student and parent community, excellent staff members, and an exceptional Board of Education, HVRSD has a remarkably bright future.

I have been privileged to lead this school district and look forward to continuing our work until my departure this summer.

Thomas A. Smith, Ed.D. Superintendent of Schools

Amie Rukenstein
Amie Rukenstein is a very curious and enthusiastic resident of Hopewell Township who can never let a question go unanswered. Amie lives in Titusville with her husband, Ron, and numerous pets. She vastly enjoys frequent visits from her college-age children and their friends. In most aspects of her life, including with her new role at MercerMe, Amie is an organizer. With a full-time job and as a member of several non-profit organizations, she finds herself most often with her laptop open and excel and google on the screen. She does, however, leave the computer as often as possible to hike in Washington Crossing Park. Amie and Ron recently purchased what appears to be the oldest structure in Titusville. Known as The Titus Store at the corner of Church and River Drive and abandoned for 20 years, they look forward to restoring the building to its former glory.
