Latin Heritage Artist Exhibit to be held at Hopewell Valley Vineyards

by Renata Barnes

Local artist C.a. Shofed and Hopewell Valley Vineyards have partnered again — this time to bring the first “Latin Heritage Artist Exhibit” to the Mercer County area. The exhibit will open on Thursday, September 14 and run through September 26.

Shofed, who also curates the annual Common Threads Exhibit at the Vineyards, has gathered some of the most talented Latino artists in the area to display “sabor Latino” in all its varying hues, textures, and expressions. The exhibit showcases paintings, photographs, and more honoring the Latin American experience as seen through the eyes and lives of five artists: Jazmyn Jones, Tamara Ramos, Leticia Letty Acevedo, Marthalicia Matarrita and Karen Valentin.

The Gingered Peach owner and baker, Joanne Canady-Brown, will be displaying her savory side with a decidedly Latin American menu with flavors originating from the Spanish-speaking Caribbean diaspora. pernil (roast Pork), moro (black rice), plantanos (sweet plantains), white rice, empanadas (beef and pork), mojo chicken and other Latin street foods are set to display Brown’s culinary versatility. Hopewell Valley Vineyards owner, Violetta Neri, will be pairing these Latin offerings with some of her exclusive wines made right here in the Valley. From dry whites, to robust and fragrant reds, Neri is excited at the opportunity to bring her unique flare to this event.

The opening reception will be held on Thursday, September 14 from 6pm-9pm to kick off the exhibit. There, patrons will be able to view and purchase the art, as well as chat with the artists while jazz music fills the late summer evening. All pieces will be available for purchase unless otherwise noted and will be on display until September 26.

This event is a further realization of Shofed’s vision of the universality of the artistic experience and its ability to call us all together. An award winning photographer himself, Shofed continues to present the Trenton art community to the wider world, drawing attention to established artists and up-and-comers hailing from our capitol city. Taking the motto “Trenton Makes The World Takes” to heart, Shofed’s mission is for Trenton’s growing art community to thrive and become both a place for art production and consumption as well as a destination for art lovers and the art curious from all over New Jersey.

The Latin Heritage Artist Exhibit will open on Thursday, September 14 and run through September 26 at the Hopewell Valley Vineyards, 46 Yard Rd, Pennington New Jersey 08534. Please come and join for what is hoped to be an annual event in Mercer County. This event is open to all.
