Here are a few actions you should take to help prevent tick bites:

  • When going outside, protect yourself and your children with bug repellent.  Always follow the label directions carefully for safe use of bug repellents.
  • Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants.  Tuck your pants into  your socks to keep ticks away from your skin.
  • Avoid walking in high grass and along brush and bushes where ticks live.  Avoid sitting directly in the grass and on the ground.
  • When returning from outdoor activities, always check yourself and your children for ticks.  A thorough tick check is important to locate ticks before they attach to your body and bite.
