Residents are reminded at this time of year when more time is spent enjoying being outdoors, to take precautions to prevent tick bites. Tickborne diseases, which are spread by tick bites, include Lyme Disease, Ehrlichinosis and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.
Here are a few actions you should take to help prevent tick bites:
> When going outside, protect yourself and your children with bug repellent. Always follow the label directions carefully for safe use of bug repellents.
> Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants. Tuck your pants into your socks to keep ticks away from your skin.
> Avoid walking in high grass and along brush and bushes where ticks live. Avoid sitting directly in the grass and on the ground. When returning from outdoor activities, always check yourself and your children for ticks. A thorough tick check is important to locate ticks before they attach to your body and bite.
