Learn About Container Gardening with a Master Gardener

by Mary Galioto

Certified Master Gardener, Kelly Thompson, will be offering a container gardening demonstration as part of the Hopewell Public Library Wednesday Night Out series, on Wednesday May 4th, 7:00pm at the Hopewell Train Station.

Thompson will show the basics of planting, as well as convey elements of design, color, exposure and proper maintenance of a garden container. With over two decades of experience in horticulture, she nurtures several plant varieties in commercial greenhouses in addition to creating beautiful container gardens for prominent estates in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Her specialties include organic gardening, composting, and upcycling – the creative reuse of discarded materials.

Attendees will be encouraged to “think outside the box” when it comes to planting a container. Thus, she insists that any vessel can be a container as long as it has a drainage hole and can hold soil. She will cover many types of styles of container gardening, as well.

Hopewell Public Library’s Wednesday Night Out Series is held at the Train Station on the first Wednesday of each month. It is free and open to the public. For more information check the library website at redlibrary.org, on Facebook, or call 466-1625.
