On Friday morning, November 30, Pennington public works and police came to the rescue of a curious cat that crawled into a storm drain and could not get out.
The owner had seen her house cat escape and, while searching in the quiet of early morning, she heard it meowing in the drain.
Assistant Foreman Morris Fabian and Officer Jonathan Pauciullo were first responders. With the aid of cat food, the cat’s owner, a backhoe, and Public Works Superintendent Rick Smith, storm grates were removed and rescuers climbed in to corner the recalcitrant cat in a pipe with only two exits. With coaxing, the cat made it into the arms of its owner and all ended well. As Pennington residents have known for many, many years, our local civil servants are the best! We should also say that the animal control officer, Jennifer LaStella from Montgomery Township was called, but shortly after her arrival, the cat-scapade came to its successful conclusion.
