Local Police Host National Night Out August 5

by Andrea Fereshteh

The Hopewell Township Police and Police Benevolent Association Local 342 will host a National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the field at the corner of Denow and Van Brunt Roads in the Brandon Farms neighborhood in Hopewell Township.

The event is free and open to the public and will feature an evening of free food and entertainment. There will also be a bounce house, dunk tank and free handouts for children. Local police and fire vehicles will be on display, including the Hopewell Valley Emergency Services smoke house.

Now in its 30th year, National Night Out, “America’s Night Out Against Crime”, in 1984 began an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. The program culminates annually, on the first Tuesday of August.

The event is designed to promote positive community outreach and to strengthen the local community by getting people out to meet and get to know their local police, and to build strong positive relationships with neighbors and local law enforcement partners. The goal of the event is to educate residents on awareness of crime-prevention, as well as support and participation in local anti-crime programs.
