LTE: HT Mayor thanks first responders, expresses condolences after flood

by Community Contributor

To the Editor:

Last night’s storm was devastating to us all in Hopewell Township and beyond.  We have lost bridges and roads, basements and appliances – we will be assessing the damage for some time.

During this record breaking storm, our first responders made over 50 water rescues, risking their own lives to save others.  I join the Township Committee and thank everyone in the many municipalities and the County of Mercer who came to help Hopewell Township’s emergency response units.  We would like to send a special thank you to Hamilton’s Fire Department for saving our three officers who clung for their lives during the worst part of the flooding.

I am so sorry to report that we lost two individuals in the storm. These losses cannot be assessed or recovered. Despite the heroic efforts of our Valley’s first responders and the efforts of so many in the County and the State, two families will grieve and suffer their personal loss.

Our deepest condolence to those who have lost what is most dear to them.

Julie Blake, Hopewell Township Mayor
along with Deputy Mayor Courtney Peters-Manning and Committee members Kristin McLaughlin, Michael Ruger, and Kevin Kuchinski
