“Manage Pests in Your Garden and Landscape” Presented by Rutgers Master Gardeners of Mercer

The Rutgers Master Gardeners of Mercer County will present a program, “Managing the Pests in Your Garden and Landscape by Nature’s Signs” on Thursday, May 30, at 7pm at Mercer County Community College (MCCC), West Windsor Campus, Communications Building, Lecture Hall CM107. This event is free and open to the public.

The presentation will be delivered by Amy Ricco, Professor of Horticulture and Program Coordinator for Ornamental Horticulture and Plant Science at MCCC. Professor Ricco willdiscuss tools to help gardeners predict insect pest infestations, including Growing Degree Days and Plant Phenological Indicators. Attendees will also learn how to control pest outbreaks while minimizing harm to beneficial insects.

A gifted educator and coordinator of the Ornamental Horticulture and Plant Science programs, Professor Ricco carries out a wide variety of tasks in addition to teaching, including supporting successful displays by her students at the Philadelphia Flower Show.Her program has produced enthusiastic young horticulturists, many of whom have gone on to pursue higher degrees in botany, ecology and related fields.

Attendees are invited to tour the MCCC Horticultural Greenhouses before the program, from 6 to 7pm.

The Rutgers Master Gardeners of Mercer County is a volunteer educational outreach program of Rutgers Cooperative Extension, 1440 Parkside Ave., Ewing, NJ.
