Meet MercerMe: Isabel Vega joins reporting staff

by Mary Galioto

MercerMe is excited to introduce Isabel Vega, an intern reporter, who has been covering Hopewell Township Committee and Planning Board meetings.

Isabel Vega is a senior at The College of New Jersey studying journalism and professional writing. She is looking forward to graduation this coming May. Last year, she worked as an editorial intern with LODGING Magazine writing, editing and conducting research for the hospitality-focused trade publication to inform hoteliers of COVID-19 health and safety updates.

Isabel shared: “Since my freshman year of high school I have always had a passion for journalism. I graduated from Randolph High School in June of 2018. There I joined my high school newspaper, Rampage. I covered reviews, opinions, and eventually hard news. In high school, I also periodically wrote entertainment pieces for the town publication, TapInto Randolph. I covered school events like drama club productions and concerts.

“I went on to study journalism and professional writing at The College of New Jersey. I knew right away I wanted to get involved with their paper, The Signal. I started as a staff writer and eventually became an editor. In my junior year, I was able to further my skills when I was offered an editorial intern position with LODGING Magazine. Here, I had a weekly byline that included pieces on COVID-19 updates and safety, getting advice from successful hoteliers and covering hospitality conferences. I worked with them again at the beginning of my senior year. It was such an incredible experience.

“Now, I am so excited to join MercerMe covering Hopewell Township Committee and Planning Board meetings. I only started a few weeks ago, but I have already learned so much, and made many new amazing relationships. I’m looking forward to the rest of my experience here!”
