Mercer County Sheriff’s Office: Child Car Seat Check-Up Event to Keep Children Safe in Vehicles

by Community Contributor

Each year, Child Passenger Safety Week is marked across the country to remind parents, grandparents and caregivers of the need to keep children of all ages properly restrained in a car seat. The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office along with the Ewing Township Police Department will hold a child car seat check-up event on Saturday, September 21, from 10am to 1:30pm at the West Trenton Volunteer Fire Company, 40 W. Upper Ferry Road in Ewing Township. The program, funded by a grant from the NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety, is part of a nationwide campaign to help properly secure children in a motorized vehicle.

“There is just a brief wait for a family to have their car seat inspected and the entire safety check usually takes no more than ten minutes,” said Sheriff Kemler.

Participants can ask questions and receive hands-on instruction from certified technicians on the proper use of both car and booster seats. The technicians will also provide information on how to choose the right type of car seat for a child’s age and size, how to correctly install the seat in their vehicle, and how to use that seat correctly every time. Each checkup will take place in the order of arrival. For more information on the Sheriff’s Office Child Seat Program, contact 609-278-7159.

“We are grateful to have secured a State grant for this important child safety matter,”added Sheriff Kemler.
