Mercer County Trolley History Topic of Talk at Library Event

by Mary Galioto

Taking a trolley in our area seems hard to imagine today but, in the early 20th century, trolley tracks connecting Trenton with Princeton carried more than one million passengers each year, with lines extending as far as Pennington and Hopewell.

Discover how Mercer County residents used to commute by trolley at this joint program presented by the Hopewell Valley Historical Society, Hopewell Museum, and Mercer County Library System. On Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 3 to 4:30pm.Dennis Waters, the Lawrence Township Historian, will give a talk about the trolley system with particular focus on the Hopewell and Pennington lines. Waters will even give hints where one can discover relics of the trolley lines that still exist in our landscape.

The event will be held at the Hopewell Township Branch of the Mercer County Library at 245 Pennington-Titusville Road and is free, but seating is limited and registration is required. You may reserve your space online at http://bit.ly/HVHStrolley or by calling 609-737-2610. Refreshments will be served.
