Hopewell Valley Soccer Association – Girls

Saturday September 19

Division 2: On Saturday, Clarke Insurance defeated Greenleaf Landscaping 2-0. June Branham scored both goals for Clarke Insurance to secure the win in an epic battle. Greenleaf Landscaping had the momentum at the start of the second half, but Clarke Insurance’s young goalkeeper Fiona Dilek made three critical saves to clinch the victory.

Also on Saturday, Fyrefly Yoga prevailed 3-2 over Hopewell Express. This was a nail biter of a game with 2 goals by Tressa Borgos to secure the win.  A great effort by the Bloom sisters in defense helped ensure team Fyrefly protected the lead. Team Hopewell Express battled back in the second half behind stellar goaltending of Ashley Kurian and Natalie Frush. The Express got within one goal after Morgan Upson scored her second goal from the left wing in the fourth quarter.

Sunday September 20

Division 2: On Sunday, Fyrefly Yoga defeated Clarke Insurance 3-0 behind spectacular goalkeeping by both Sophia Prunetti and Ava McNally. The midfield carried the day for the Fyreflies with great effort from Theresa Fox, Sasha Heimann, and Eva Rossy. Clarke Insurance came back strong on the offensive side during the last quarter. Even though Clarke Insurance’s goalkeeper Anna Bailey had a minor hand injury during the third quarter, she refused to concede more goals thanks to her fighting attitude. Eleanor MacDonald and Scarlett Ialamov were determined to form a solid defense for Team Clarke all the way up to the finishing whistle.

The Hopewell Express came flying out of the gates on Sunday versus Greenleaf Landscaping and took a fast 2 – 0 lead behind two goals from Morgan Upson. After falling behind 3-2, Sophia Landolina led the Express back in the third quarter with a number of great rushes up the field and finally got the game tied 3-3 on Morgan Upson’s third goal. Sloane Ritter’s bid to win the game late in the fourth hit off the post and bounced away as the clock hit zero. Lauren Dwyer was outstanding on offense for the Express and Eva DeMinico led the defense for the Express in the second half and kept Greenleaf off the board enabling the Express to walk away with a hard fought tie.

Division 3: Team Pixie Salon scored 2 goals to defeat m3 Studios.  Angelyn Li scored both goals and Samantha Weeast had a shut out game in goal.  Defense was led by Maggie Woodside and Sophia Acerenza.  Great teamwork from Lola Caruso, Aarya Joshi, Daphne Edmond-Marietti, Andrea Odaa, Alexandra Rowe, Siria Vallucci, Kaylie Weeast, and Ainsley Weed led the team to victory.

On Saturday, 9/19, Pixie Salon lost 3-2.  Goals were scored by Alexandra Rowe and Kaylie Weeast.  With the addition of teammate Luca Burd, the girls gave it their all.
