Monday Sports Roundup

by Tracy Vogler

Due to COVID-19 cases at Hopewell Valley Central High School, sports were cancelled on Monday and Tuesday. This caused the first of two games last week against Paul VI to be cancelled.

Friday, the teams played at Paul VI’s home rink, Virtua Flyers Skate Zone. At the end of the first, the Bulldogs were down 0-1. In the second period, Paul VI continued scoring, making it 0-3 in the first minutes of the second. But the Bulldogs were not to be kept down. First, Joe Greenspoon scored, assisted by Andrew Seamon and Sean Amon. Then, near the end of the second, Sean Amon scored unassisted, bring the score to 2-3. During the third, Paul VI first scored on a power pla, but that was their last goal.  Joe Greenspoon scored, this time assisted by Season Amon and Lucas Gaissert. Finally, with only a little more than 3 minutes left in the game, Lucas Gaissert, assisted by Sean Amon and Andrew Season, scored the tying goal, making the final score 4-4.  This brings the Bulldogs record this season to 1-1-1. Their next game is scheduled for Wednesday against Princeton.

The Hopewell Valley Girls Basketball team had their opening game of the season, decisively beating Lawrence 49-37.  Franki Gomez, Hopewell’s only returning starter this year, amassed a total 21 of the 49  points, followed by Hailey Rowe with 13, Gillian Magner with 10, Anderson Cappucci with a two pointer and Acadia Kurtz with a free throw. The girls play their next game at Trenton and the boys have their first game, at home, against Trenton on Tuesday.
