Last week was a rough week for Hopewell Valley sports. The Girls Basketball team started their week with a game against Princeton. It was a close game, ultimately ending in a 37-40 loss. Franki Gomez led the scoring with 18, followed by Hailey Rowe with 8, Acadia Kurtz with 4, Katie Rowe with 3, and Anderson Cappucci, Kennedy Havens and Gillian Magner with 2 each.
The girls played Allentown on Friday. Despite the teams fairly close standings in the CVC, Allentown defeated the Hopewell Valley Team 44-12. Hailey Rowe and Franki Gomez lead with 4 points, followed by Katherine Laitusis and Gillian Magner with 2 points each.
On Saturday the girls played unbeaten Ewing. In another close game, the girls ended up losing 47-52. Franki Gomez scored 20 points, followed by Gillian Magner with 12, Acadia Kurtz with 8, Hailey Rowe with 3 and Anderson Cappucci and Kennedy Havens with 2 each.
On Saturday the Ewing Blue Devils rolled into Hopewell Valley to face the Bulldogs Boys Basketball Team. In a close game where no lead was more than four points, Ewing came away with a 49-47 victory. For the Bulldogs, Jake Loughery (14 points), Jackson Whitlock (13 points, 15 rebounds) and Kevin Ellis (11 points) lead the way.

Hopewell Valley/Montgomery Ice Hockey had a a similarly difficult schedule. The two teams they played, Robbinsville and Notre Dame, are consistently strong teams and this year is no different. On Wednesday, the Bulldogs met Robbinsville for the first game of their opponents’ delayed season. The game opened with Robbinsville scoring early in the first period, to be answered by Lucas Gaissert, assisted by Jack Cramer and Sean Amon, but that was the only goal for the Bulldogs. Robbinsville scored twice in the second and once in the third, making the final 1-4.
The Bulldogs were optimistic going into the second game of the week, against Notre Dame. Notre Dame opened the game strong, scoring two unanswered goals in the first. Another goal by the Irish in the third made it 0-3, but it was the third period when it all fell apart for the Bulldogs; the Irish scored four more time before Sean Amon, assisted by Lucas Gaissert, scored HVM’s only goal of the game. Final score – 1-7.
