Monday Sports Update

This week, the Girls Swim team had their first meet. They matched up against Steinert and the Girls team won handily, 125-40. For the individual events, Hopewell had many first-place finishes including  Reagan Sherman in the 200 yard freestyle and the 500 yard freestyle, Claire Christie in the 200 yard Individual medley, Ava D’Alessandro in the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard freestyle, and Emilie Sawicki in the 100 yard breaststroke.

The Bulldogs also placed first in the 200 medley relay (Sherman, Sawicki, Christie, D’Alessandro), the 200 yard freestyle relay (Maeve Geurds, Sofia Marcus, Ella Hoch, Julia Szymanik), and the 400 yard freestyle relay (May Hartog, D’Alessandro, Anna Wurtz, Sherman). This was a great first meet for the Bulldogs, and they are looking forward to meets against Ewing and West Windsor-Plainsboro North next week! – Christopher Sawicki

The Hopewell Valley Boys Swim Team also started off their season strong with a 117-47 win against Steinert. In the 200 IM, Alex Nicolai placed first, Pavel Sverdlov placed second, and Aaron L’vov placed third to sweep the event. This occurred again in the 100 backstroke, where Chris Sawicki placed first, Sverdlov placed second, and Joseph Genovesi placed third. In addition, Alex Helmrich placed first in both the 200 free and 500 free, while Owen Seibold placed first in both the 100 free and the 100 breaststroke. In the 400 free relay, Helmrich, Tyler Mac, Sawicki, and Nicolai took first with a time of 3:43.81 to close the meet. The meet featured many more great swims, and it was nice to return to in-person meets this year. -Emilie Sawicki
