Hopewell Valley Central High School
This week the Hopewell Valley boys soccer team played three tough games and won all three of them. Their first game was on Tuesday against West Windsor-Plainsboro South, winning 3-0. Kamil Mosionek scored one goal and Alex Tagliareni scored two, including a volley from 40 yards. On that play the goalie came out to clear the ball but Gunnar Casano quickly passed it to Tagliareni who shot over the keeper, who was only able to get a slight touch on it before it went in the goal. Austin Roell also saved a penalty kick to keep the clean sheet for Hopewell.
On Friday, Hopewell played Lawrence in a battle for the top spot in the CVC Valley division. Alex Luedecke and Nick Tagliareni both scored in the first half to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Tagliareni’s goal was a bicycle kick (assisted by his brother Alex), and was one of the best (if not the best) goals scored by the Bulldogs this season. Lawrence scored with only a few minutes left in the second half to close the gap but were unable to score again, leaving Hopewell with a 2-1 victory.
On Saturday the Bulldogs played an exciting game against Bridgewater-Raritan. Hopewell fell behind 1-0 early but Chris Turnbull evened the score with an assist by Thomas Hooks. Bridgewater scored again before halftime and Hopewell was down 2-1. In the second half Alex Tagliareni scored with an assist by his brother Nick. The game was tied 2-2 for a long time until Nick Tagliareni scored a header (assisted by Chris Turnbull from a corner kick) with only 18 seconds left in the game to win the game 3-2 for the Bulldogs. -Christopher Sawicki

This week, the CHS Girls Volleyball team played four matches, winning three and losing one. On Monday, the girls played West Windsor-Plainsboro North, winning in just two sets: 25-21 and 25-11. The game featured some great setting from Zoe Kitson, as well as some strong front row play from outside Zoe Reznik and middle Sydney Brown. On Thursday, the Bulldogs took a tough, two-set loss against West Windsor-Plainsboro South (12-25, 15-25). Despite the loss, the game included multiple kills from outside Sofie Ragins and solid defense from libero Michaela Kwak and defensive specialist Megan Silberberger. On Saturday, the girls participated in a tri-match, playing two games against Villa Walsh and Phillipsburg. In the Villa Walsh game, the Bulldogs went to three sets, eventually earning a win by scores of 25-17, 20-25, 25-7. The girls played well, including some great play from Gianna Dominque and good sets from Anna Chrnelich, as well as a long serving run from Ragins to finish out the third set. In the game against Phillipsburg, the girls pulled out a very tight win in two sets: 25-20 and 26-24. The game featured multiple kills from middle Faith Dunahm and outsides Emilie Sawicki and Sofie Ragins, and a few blocks from Dunham and Charlotte Catlett. The girls fought hard and used great passing from Kwak and strong sets from Jeong-Won Han to close out the game. -Emilie Sawicki

Hopewell Valley Soccer Association
The D2B Regent Flooring team was bested this past Saturday by the Deputry Dawg Catering team. The Dogs took the lead early on and Regent was never able to recover. The score was 4-0 at the half. Regent fought hard and had a few shots on goal in the second half but was never able to get any past the Dog’s goalie. It was a strong showing by the Dogs and if the two teams meet again it will be in the playoffs -Trent Crow
This Red team (PP&G) is on a roll as we won both week end games. Sat.(9/25) was a 5-2 vs Investors Bank. 2-0 Hard fought game VS Boro Market as the goalies on both teams played a major role. Just a tremendous pressure and total game control on both ends did the job for Pennington Pizza and Grill. This team is on a four game winning streak as each player is finding their own role and contributing to the team success as of late. -Joseph Ampongan
Dr. McDonough’s Live Wires met up with Northwestern Mutual in a Hopewell Valley Division 2 Boys Soccer match on September 25. It was a well played match on a beautiful sunny day, with both teams displaying good sportsmanship and respect for each other and the referees. The Live Wires came away with a 7-1 victory. The win puts the Live Wires at 2-1 on the season. Austin Yasher led the way for the Live Wires with 3 goals. Jack Bailey, Jackson Warmke, Jacob Eckel, and Logan Hoffman each scored a goal apiece for the Live Wires. Charlie Baverstock, Arjun Kumar, Eli Benziger-Chakrabarti, George Shafer, and Owen Burness also played strong matches for the Live Wires. Next up for the Live Wires is a match with Marco’s Pizza on Oct 2. -Joe Hoffman
