New Housing Options Announced for Hopewell Valley Residents Wanting to Age in Place

by Community Contributor

Hopewell Township issued this message to let the community know more about the recent Township decision to approve the development of an age-restricted community on the east side of Scotch Road, as previously reported by MercerMe in PennEast Pipeline, New Capital Health Facility Headline Hopewell Township Meeting.

Hopewell Township has reached an agreement in-principle for the construction of a new age-restricted community on the east side of Scotch Road, adjacent to the Capital Health hospital. The community will be built by a private developer, in partnership with Capital Health.

This new community will offer a range of new housing options for Hopewell Valley and other area residents, ranging from independent living options to assisted living, skilled nursing care, memory care and hospice. In total, this community will comprise approximately 500 new housing units, with up to 400 age-restricted condos and other independent living options and 150 units in a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). Residents will enjoy a wide range of community amenities, including fitness and aquatics, as well as access to the state-of-the-art consultation and care provided by Capital Health and its physicians.

Commenting on the new community and CCRC, Mayor Kevin Kuchinski added, “We are proud to work with Capital Health and its partners to create these new housing options for Hopewell Valley residents who are looking to down-size, but want to stay in the community they know and love. This new development provides a continuum of care for active older adults, as well as those seeking additional assistance and medical care. With Capital Health closely integrated in the project, we are confident this will become a vibrant and well-loved part of our community, filling a real gap in our current housing options.”

Adding to Mayor Kuchinski’s comments, Committeewoman Kristin McLaughlin said, “Our seniors have been asking for these types of housing options for some time. Residents can now confidently plan for their futures in Hopewell Valley, while ensuring future health care needs are met and reducing their tax burden.”

This new age-restricted community was approved at Monday night’s Hopewell Township Committee meeting, with a well-defined redevelopment agreement now in-place to guide its design and aesthetics and to minimize any traffic/environmental/water impacts on the broader community. Capital Health has pre-approved capacity for water and sewer infrastructure for this new community, and its partners expect to submit a full site plan application and accompanying studies to the Planning Board in the months ahead.
