One More Chance to Own Your Own Ox

by Mary Galioto

Do you miss seeing the colorful group of fiberglass oxen throughout Hopewell Valley? We all do. The Stampede was a wonderful for Hopewell Valley.

“The project was intended to increase awareness of arts in the community and raise funds for the council,” Liz Bell explained. “The process has been a gratifying one for the arts council.”

While most of the Oxen were purchased at the end of 2014 during the online auction, there are still 11 special oxen that have not found homes. Right now, you can view the prized herd in person as they graze in front of The Pennington School on West Delaware Avenue in Pennington.

Still want one? Here’s your final chance. On Saturday, January 24, 2015, the 11 final oxen will be auctioned off  at the Year of the Ox Gala to be held at Grounds for Sculpture, by auctioneer Sam Freeman, from the famous Freeman’s of Philadelphia.

The ‘Ox’tion Gala will be an evening of food, fun, art, and oxen featuring culinary talents of local chefs and dinner catered by Rat’s Restaurant, local Hopewell Valley performers and an “art inspired” silent auction. The event will be hosted at the Grounds for Sculpture, formerly the New Jersey State Fairgrounds and the vision of Hopewell Valley’s own Seward Johnson. Attire is creative black tie (and we covered what that means yesterday!).

If you have your sights set on one of the eleven ‘oxceptional’ oxen selected for the live auction, then you will want to attend. And if you just love a night of creative fun, this is a place you’ll want to be!

Event sponsors are offered an early “preview reception” of the oxen plus special opportunities with our culinary artists are available too. The silent auction is open to all (whether attending the gala or not), and begins online on January 15.
