Tomorrow, Saturday, July 26, an ox named “ArtToro,” created by artists Gyuri Hollosy and Mary Michaels with the help of a team of apprentices, will be installed via a crane at Pennington Quality Market.
Hollosy is a Grounds For Sculpture artist and has created an resin armature that has been attached piece-by-piece to his ox. It is so heavy and bulky that a crane is necessary to install it.
The artists, Hollosy and Michaels, along with PQM, have planned a morning full of events for the public. The general schedule of events is as follows:
8:30 a.m. – 9 a.m. Crane will arrive for installation
11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Refreshment and entertainment featuring Arturo Romay, Spanish, Latin contemporary jazz guitarist who has performed with artists including Tito Puente and Marc Anthony.
12:00 p.m. A brief unveiling ceremony.
Keep your eyes peeled for other oxen popping up around Hopewell Valley as the herd joined the Stampede this month and next.
From August 15 to October 19, spectators will be able to use a free Stampede map to find the oxen, and participate in the “Where’s Olly?” contest that lets uses smartphone technology to track all of the oxen and vote for favorites.
