Parenting Conference Returns to Hopewell Valley

by Community Contributor

The third bi-annual Hopewell Valley Parenting Conference will be held on Saturday, March 28 at Hopewell Valley Central High School, Pennington, NJ from 8am to 12:30pm.  The conference goal is for parents to get inspired, connect with other parents and to learn more effective parenting skills.

The conference hopes to attract over 300 parents from around the Mercer County community and beyond.

“Although Hopewell Valley is in the conference title, we want to make this year’s conference and those in the future available to all parents, regardless of where they live,” said Heidi Kahme, conference committee member.

Attendees can expect a keynote presentation by William R. Stixrud, Ph.D. and Ned Johnson, co-authors of the national bestseller, The Self-Driven Child: The Science and Sense of Giving Your Kids More Control Over Their Lives, one 90-minute workshop of their choosing, refreshments, book sale and signing, along with community resource exhibits. Workshop topics include Fostering Intrinsic Motivation in Teens; Back to Basics: Raising Balanced Children in an Unbalanced World; Wired 24/7: How Technology is Affecting Kids’ Brains and Development; Building Emotional Resilience in Children; and more.

“Parenting today is hard work.  We want to celebrate parents and provide a first-class workshop where they can gain confidence in their parenting skills, get inspired and connect with other parents,” said Kahme.

Parents and guardians of children elementary to high school are encouraged to register as soon as possible as workshops have limited space. Conference fees are $25 per person. For more information and to register, visit www.hvalliance.org.  Questions can be directed to [email protected].

The Hopewell Valley Parenting Conference is being organized by parent volunteers in partnership with the Hopewell Valley Municipal Alliance, Hopewell Valley Regional School District, and the Hopewell Valley Education Foundation.
