At the Pennington Borough council meeting last night, Pennington representatives unanimously passed two Penneast pipeline related resolutions.
Pennington passed a resolution opposing the proposed Penneast Pipeline project “on property owned and/or affecting the Borough of Pennington, Mercer County, New Jersey.” The resolution with met with full support from the Borough council. Borough Administrator Eileen Heinzel assured the council that the resolution would be submitted with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (“FERC”) and explained that generally the language of the resolution mirror that of Hopewell Township’s opposition resolution.
The second resolution passed last night was one “requesting the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to conduct a formal scoping meeting in lieu of an open house format,” which is what Hopewell Township also passed recently. The Stonybrook-Millstone Watershed Association’s Policy Director, Mike Pisauro, applauded Pennington Borough’s opposition to this pipeline. “This project is going to go through a vast majority of preserved areas, those that have been preserved by municipalities with tax payer funds… and will invade many water bodies (mostly ‘c-1 streams’ which are the cleanest) including Baldwin Creek and Stony Brook which places where Pennington residents recreate.” Pisauro urged Pennington Borough to continue to oppose the pipeline project and work with other municipalities in this opposition.
