The Pennington Borough Council bid a fond farewell to Mayor Anthony Persichilli and discussed upcoming road work at their first December meeting.
The meeting was the last for Persichilli, who is retiring after more than a decade of service.
“You’ve represented us incredibly well at events big and small,” Council member Joseph Lawver said. “You have been a tremendous listener and consensus-builder.”
Persichilli has been the longest serving mayor in Pennington and considered the “face of the town,” according to Lawver.
Lawver additionally remarked on Persichilli’s accomplishments, such as improving relations with the County, saving the Borough potentially millions of dollars on road repairs, and “[countering] the notion that it’s hard to do business in Pennington.”
The Council additionally approved a $240,000 grant for repairs on East Curlis Avenue and Curlis Drive through a program by the New Jersey IBank. Construction on the two roads, as well as Ingleside Avenue and Burd Street, will begin in 2019, although no specific dates was given.
The Council also highlighted some upcoming events, such as the Holiday Walk on December 7 and a styrofoam and shredding service on February 2 at Tollgate Grammar School.
