Pennington Borough Council held their annual reorganization meeting this week, attended by an overflowing crowd of residents, volunteers, family and friends, including former Council members and mayors and County officials.
New Councilwoman Liz Semple was sworn in to a three-year term, and Councilwoman Deb Gnatt was re-elected. Mayor Joe Lawver was selected by Council at the December 27, 2018 meeting to fill the unexpired mayoral term vacated upon Tony Persichilli’s retirement. That term runs to December 31, 2019.
Persichilli, was also honored by proclamation by Lawver, and recognized by Stephanie Carey, the Borough’s health officer, for his dedication and accomplishments to public health. Persichilli set a 12-year record as the longest serving mayor in Pennington Borough history. In 2004, he entered the political arena winning election to Pennington Borough Council. After serving with distinction on Council, he was elected Pennington mayor three times, serving three terms of four years, until his resignation in December, 2018.
