Stony Brook Elementary School in Hopewell Township had the privilege of hosting the New Jersey Hall of Fame Mobile Museum in its parking lot yesterday afternoon. The museum came to Stony Brook free of charge through the Thomas Edison Foundation as a result of some very special students’ work with the State Inventor Bill.

Earlier this year, students Rory Danieluk, Dylan Kalina, Emma Smith and Zoe Kitson, under the guidance of their teacher Sarah Lindbloom, came up with the idea that Thomas Alva Edison should be named as State Inventor after a class trip to the New Jersey Statehouse. In May, Bill No. S2771 was introduced in the Senate and referred to the Senate State Government, Wagering, Tourism & Historic Preservation Committee. In September, the four Stony Brook Elementary students and Ms. Lindbloom were awarded the prestigious award, “The Tommy” at the National Gallery for America’s Young Inventors event in West Orange at the Thomas Edison National Historical Park. “The Tommy,” named after Thomas Edison, is given by The Edison Innovation Foundation to individuals who strive to create positive change in the world through Edison’s vision, exemplifying the ability to think big new thoughts.

As part of the recognition of the students’ work regarding Thomas Edison, the Foundation sent, without charge, the New Jersey Hall of Fame Mobile Museum. Designed by Hall of Fame inductee, celebrated architect and designer, Michael Graves, and Ralph Appelbaum Associates, renowned planner and designer of museum exhibitions, the 53-foot double-expandable trailer is transformed on location to 850-square feet of exhibition space.
“Our students have had a such great experience being part of the legislative process and the museum is a wonderful bonus,” said Lisa Wolff, Hopewell Valley Regional School District School Board President.

“After viewing the mobile museum, I hope all students came away realizing that all the people showcased in the museum were ordinary citizens, just like us,” said Lindbloom. “All of them made goals for themselves and followed their dreams to become the best that they could be. That is exactly what we want for each and every student here at Stony Brook. Thank you so much to John Keegan for giving our students this opportunity!”
