Poetry Walk with Scott and Hella McVay Hosted by Sourland Conservancy

“Let the beauty we love / Be what we do.”  Rumi(trans. by Coleman Barks)

Knowing of the connection between art and conservation through dozens of organizations, including the World Wildlife Fund, and world travel, Hella and Scott McVay created a Poetry Trail on the former Robert Wood Johnson estate’s rolling hills and meadows in 2010. The Trail consists of 48 signs, 24 by women, 24 by men from a dozen lands and countries reaching back more than two millennia.  The poems are situated in relation to one another and the landscape. The resonant theme is catching the ineffable in words in the beauty, surprise, awe, mystery, seasonality, and timelessness of nature.

On Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 10am to 12pm at the Poetry Trail at the D & R Greenway on Rosedale Road in Princeton, the Sourland Conservancy will host a Poetry Walk with Scott and Hella McVay. The McVays will provide information about the poets that will enliven the walk and encourage participants to read aloud some of the poems.

Scott McVay, a published poet, created the biennial Dodge Foundation four-day Poetry Festival in 1986 which is thriving to this day.  Hella selected the poems, helped with the design of the signs and their placement.

This event is sponsored by the Sourland Conservancy. Advance registration is required.  For event information and registration, please visit http://tiny.cc/PoetryHike.
