Remembering Local Artist and Writer NJ DeVico

by Community Contributor

As many of you have already heard, a superb artist, artist “encourager” and dear friend to many of us, Norma Jean DeVico died last week. Despite dealing with a terminal illness, NJ lived life with courage, strength, humor, curiosity, immense creativity, joy, and big time love.

Norma Jean wrote her own obituary, quoted below.

“Norma Jean DeVico, 8/24/56 – artist and writer of Titusville, NJ – died on 7/11/18, laughing to the end. She leaves behind many people she loved. You know who you are. DeVico was pissed because she was finally getting it together artistically, however, she’s glad she’ll never have to wash the kitchen floor again. Oh, and she’d like you to keep in mind that if you wake up in the morning, it’s a good day. Goodbye, Norma Jean.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the NJ DeVico Scholarship Fund at Mercer County Community College. Checks may be made payable to MCCC Foundation and mailed to PO Box 17202, Trenton, NJ 08690.”

Above was submitted by NJ’s dear friend, Lucia Stout.

Editor’s Note: NJ will be remembered by all those whose lives she touched. I knew her for a short time through the Artists at the Station, a group that has been creating visual art together for more than ten years. They enjoy the opportunity to work in a spirit of artistic camaraderie and mutual support. The group meets at the Hopewell Train Station on Tuesday mornings, from 10:00 to 1:00. Artists work in all media – from pen and ink to watercolor to pastels to oil and acrylic paints to sculpting. Artist bring their own projects and supplies. All artists who wish to work in an open studio environment are welcome. Contact artistsatthestaiton @gmail.com.
