Serious Vehicular Accident in Hopewell Township, Road Now Reopened

At 5:58 PM the Hopewell Township Police along with the Hopewell Valley Emergency Services were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on County Route 579 (Bear Tavern Road) south of County Route 546 (Washington Crossing Pennington Road) Officers arrived and found that a Ford Taurus and a Toyota Prius collided.

The Ford Taurus was driven by John Lehet (79 years of age), of Creek Rim Drive, Titusville, New Jersey. Mr. Lehet was removed from his vehicle and transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center with a chest injury by the Hopewell Valley Emergency Services and Paramedics from Capital Health System.

The Toyota was driven by Meryl Bisberg (63 years of age), of Hickory Hill Road, Hillsborough, New Jersey. Ms. Bisberg was removed from her vehicle and transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center by members of the Pennington First Aid Squad with chest and arm injuries.

Investigation into the crash revealed that Mr. Lehet was traveling southbound along County Route 579 and Ms. Bisberg was traveling northbound. For an unknown reason the Ford driven by Mr. Lehet crossed the center line and struck the Toyota traveling northbound.

County Route 579 was closed for approximately 2 hours. Traffic was detoured around the crash scene.

The crash is being investigated by Officer Mandy Grey, Detective Mike Sherman, and Detective Anthony Abarno of the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office. Mr. Lehet was issued a summons for failure to keep right.
