Slowing Down in Hopewell Boro

by Mary Galioto

Hopewell Borough is expanding road safety measures as its vibrant downtown businesses continue to attract more road activity — vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists.

The foundations have already been poured and are marked with orange cones for now.

There will also be a rapid flashing beacon to signify to vehicles that a pedestrian is crossing, similar to the one near the Boro Bean on East Broad.

In response, one resident along with the support of the Facebook group, “Friends of Broad Street,” and the help of a local graphic designer created “Drive 25” car magnets. These magnets are meant to encourage a town-wide speed limit of 25 miles per hour, although some portions of West Broad Street remain 30 miles per hour.

If you want to encourage slow town driving and pedestrian and cyclist mindfulness, the magnets are available for purchase at Twirl Toy Shop, Ebb, Boro Bean, the Bear & the Books, twine., and Sticks and Stones.
