Hopewell Township emergency responders battled two residential fires late last week, as intense thunderstorms rolled through the area amid tornado warnings.
The Hopewell Township Police Department, along with the Union Fire Company, responded to a Valley Road address for a possible structure fire, at 5:33pm May 29. Fire personnel, under the command of Union Fire Company Chief Kurt Pedersen, arrived on scene and determined the house was possibly struck by lightning causing damage to the residence’s electrical system.
Responding agencies assisting the Union Fire Company were the Pennington Fire Company, Hopewell Fire Department, Hopewell Valley Emergency Services. West Amwell Fire Department, Lambertville Fire Department and the Upper Makefield Fire Department.
The home suffered minor smoke damage as well as damage to the electrical systems. (See video below.)
The source of the fire is under investigation by Officer Erwin of the Hopewell Township Police Department and Specialist David VanDoren of the Hopewell Valley Emergency Services. The fire does not appear suspicious and is believed to be related to severe weather that was occurring in the area.
The Hopewell Township Police Department, along with the Pennington Fire Company, responded to a Honey Brook Drive address for a possible structure fire at 5:50pm on the same evening. Fire personnel, under the command of the Pennington Fire Company Deputy Chief James Deforte, arrived on scene to find a fire in an attached garage. The fire was quickly extinguished by fire personnel.
Numerous fire agencies assisted the Pennington Fire Company during fire suppression operations. The home suffered moderate smoke and water damage.
The source of the fire is under investigation by Officer Liotta of the Hopewell Township Police Department and Specialist John Schafer of the Hopewell Valley Emergency Services. The fire does not appear suspicious and is believed to be related to severe weather that was occurring in the area.
