Sustainability Tastes Delicious at Sustainable Jersey’s Farm-to-Table Fundraiser

by Mary Galioto

At Terhune Orchards, the 3rd Annual Sustainable Jersey “Sustainable Fare for Sustainable Jersey” fundraiser was held last week. And this isn’t your typical event — it is more like being a guest at a country wedding.

It began with a rustic yet refined cocktail hour next to the flower garden behind Terhune’s farmhouse, still residence of Terhune owners, Pam and Gary Mount. Members of the Mount family poured wine and frozen spiced peach cider while Sustainable Jersey volunteers passed delectable hors d’oeuvres.

After a brief “welcome” from hosts, sustainable jerseyguests were lead to the barn where everyone sat a farmhouse length tables to enjoy a 7-course tasting meal each prepared by famous New Jersey chefs. This year, each course was made exclusively with New Jersey sourced ingredients and paired with Terhune Orchard’s award winning wines.

To add to the ambiance, The Riverside Band, a local five-piece acoustic string band, entertained guests with bluegrass tunes.

At the end of an amazing meal, everyone was sent home with a muffin for the morning, a frozen corn pop (not pop corn!) for the road, and a bag of Terhune grown produce that had served as centerpieces on the tables.

This is an event you’re not going to want to miss next year. Make sure you’re following MercerMe and Sustainable Jersey on Facebook and Twitter so you don’t miss it again.
