The Watershed Butterfly Festival is Sure to Take Flight

by Mary Galioto

“Come Fly With Us” in celebration of the new Watershed Center for Environmental Advocacy, Science and Education and the Kate Gorrie Butterfly House at the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association’s 15th Annual Butterfly Festival. The event will be held on Saturday August 8th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Watershed Reserve.

Attendees can explore the new LEED-platinum certified Watershed Center to discover ways we can all make a difference for clean water and a healthy environment. Held on the grounds of the 930-acre Watershed Reserve, the Butterfly Festival has been a popular family event attracting over 2,000 visitors every summer. The event will feature tethered hot air balloon rides over the Watershed Reserve for just $10 per person, (children under 3 ride free but must be accompanied by an adult). Come see music by the “Dadz” and other entertainment on stage, local artisans, delicious food, an insect zoo, hay rides, nature walks, and the famous Butterfly and Bug Parade. (Don’t forget your costume!)

Visitors can also enjoy yoga and hula-hoop demonstrations, a Star Lab, parachute games, bubbles the size of cars, and a magic show. There will be crafts for all ages including paper airplane construction and a quilt square coloring table. Take a picture in our photo booth, or the #BflyFest15 Be-Your-Selfie Spots. Keep cool in the chill tent and play in the H2Olympics.

Enter a free drawing to win a $100 Visa gift card. Raffle tickets will be on sale for the chance to win a hot air balloon ride for four over the beautiful Bucks County countryside. (All proceeds benefit the Watershed Association and help protect clean water and the environment in central New Jersey).

Shuttle parking for the Butterfly Festival is generously provided by Bristol-Myers Squibb across the street from the Watershed Reserve (access from Titus Mill Road). Admission to the Festival is $10 per person or $25 per carload and entry is free for new members signing up at the festival. For discounts, please register online at www.thewatershed.org.
