On Monday February 3, The Hopewell Township Committee discussed the capital budget and energy aggregation, including a presentation from Concord Energy Services about a new system that could save residents money.
Michael J. Hyle Jr. was sworn into office as a new Patrol Officer for the Hopewell Township Department at the start of the meeting. Surrounded by friends, family, and fellow members of the Department, Hyle took an oath before the Hopewell Township Committee. Police Chief Lance Maloney followed with some kind words about Hyle.
“I believe Michael will be successful here,” said Maloney.
Following the Police Department’s introduction, Karin Poveromo, the Director of Recreation for Hopewell Township’s Parks and Recreation division, introduced a resolution to make the fees and wages for community sports camps equal and to ensure gender equality within the pay. Poveromo also wants to ensure that the camps are run at affordable prices. The Committee passed this resolution unanimously.
In the presentation from Concord Energy Services, a representative explained the process of the New Jersey BGS auction, which is held every February, as well as the company’s aggregation details, benefits, and pricing options.
Concord Energy Services emphasized the flexibility of membership for Hopewell residents, stating that a person can opt in or out of services at any time without penalties or fees. However, residents who are with a third-party supplier or have solar may not be eligible.
Residents will still be billed through their regular utility company once a month and budget billing is offered through this program. Concord also provides environmental benefits and savings. This program also includes consumer protections such as: no predatory contracts, no fees, and protection against seasonal or short-term fixed and variable rates.

There will be a public hearing on Tuesday, February 18 opening the process of formally adopting an energy aggregation program.
A resolution establishing a temporary capital budget was passed. Committee member Kevin Kuchinski addressed some advantages of a temporary capital budget, including buying new 2020 police vehicles sooner.
“We can adopt and move forward on a capital budget in advance of the broader budget,” said Kuchinski.
A resolution accepting the retirement of Officer Michael A. Toth in the Police Department was passed.
“Be it further resolved that Hopewell Township Committee on behalf of itself and all municipal employees wishes Michael A. Toth good health and happiness in his retirement,” said Mayor McLaughlin.
A resolution accepting the resignation of Robert English, the Health Officer in the Health Department, was passed.
“Robert English was a well-loved member of the community and has done a lot for keeping people healthy and safe in town,” said Mayor McLaughlin. “His services will be missed by many.”
All other resolutions were passed unanimously.
