Unconfirmed Case of Enterovirus-D68 at Hopewell Valley Central High

by Mary Galioto

A student at Central High School is currently being treated for an unconfirmed case of Enterovirus-D68, a severe respiratory illness, according to the Hopewell Valley Regional School District (HVRSD).

“In an effort to be proactive, I am writing to let you know that we are working closely with our school physician and Township health officials to review our response protocols for this situation.  These protocols include following best practices for notification and employing a rigorous cleaning procedure on a daily basis in each of our schools and offices to provide a safe environment for our students and staff,” stated Dr. Thomas Smith, HVRSD Superintendent, in an email to the HVRSD community.

The district also emphasized the importance of proper hygiene strategies (i.e. hand washing), avoiding close contact and the sharing of cups or eating utensils, and the necessity to keep sick students home to avoid the spread of illness.
