Believe it or not, it’s spring! With snow finally melting, there are plenty of community cleanup opportunities throughout Mercer County in April.

Friends of Hopewell Valley Open Space Clean Communities Day

Friends of Hopewell Valley (FoHVOS) in partnership with Hopewell Township, Saturday, April 14, 8am-12pm. Meet at the Public Works Department, 203 Washington Crossing-Pennington Road. Work for two hours and receive a T-shirt and earn money for the nonprofit of your choice. For more information, email [email protected].

 

Earth Weekend at the Nature Center

Friday, April 20, and Saturday, April 21, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Tulpehaking Nature Center, 157 Westcott Ave., Hamilton.

There will be special collection bins for certain tough-to-recycle items. Bring your chip bags, juice pouches and other listed items in exchange for a special gift from the nature center. AmeriCorps Stream Monitoring Part 1

Thursday, April 12, 7-9 p.m., Historic Hunt House Barn, Blackwell Road, Hopewell Township.

PART ONE: Indoor Training

You can help monitor stream health by looking for macro-invertebrates (critters seen with the naked eye) and collecting water samples in the Sourland streams. No experience necessary. Attend the two-part training presented by AmeriCorps Watershed Ambassador Fairfax Hutter and Sourland Conservancy intern Lucas Norfleet. Space is limited.
