This Saturday, people are coming out to stand-up for clean water and oppose the PennEast Pipeline. Dozens of people will be kayaking down the Delaware & Raritan Canal to admire and photograph the path which will be impacted of by the construction of the proposed PennEast pipeline. This will also be a great opportunity to view the path of the proposed pipeline and how it would pass through important and scenic towns such as Stockton and Lambertville, explained the Sierra Club. Kayakers will end up in Washington’s Crossing State Park to join others in a rally to say “no” to pipelines where Washington crossed the Delaware.
“Some people yack about the environment; we’re out here kayaking for the environment! We’re coming together along the route of the proposed PennEast Pipeline to say NO to the pipeline and the effects it will have on our homes and environment. This pipeline will cause a tremendous amount of environmental damage and impact important water resources. Siltation and runoff from the pipeline would destroy high-quality streams and impact the water supply for 7 million people. It will be cutting through areas that are more environmentally sensitive including more open space, historic sites, and parkland,” said Jeff Tittel, Director of the New Jersey Sierra Club. “We are paddling down the Delaware and Raritan Canal to bring awareness to the beautiful and important landscape that will be threatened if we allow PennEast Pipeline to come through.”

The 110-mile proposed pipeline would cut through the Delaware River Valley beginning in Dallas Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. It would cross the Delaware River and 87 other major waterways, into to Hopewell Township and connect to an existing pipeline in Pennington, New Jersey. The pipeline would threaten the entire Delaware Valley and our drinking water. This will be a wonderful opportunity to see kayakers coming down the route in protest of PennEast Pipeline.
