Upcoming Rally and Protest Against PennEast Pipeline

by Mary Galioto

Concerned citizens and local environmental groups are gathering at the Statehouse, on Tuesday, September 29th at noon, for a one-block march to protest the PennEast Pipeline.

Following PennEast‘s official filing with FERC late last week, despite substantial community resistance to the project in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania, the group will be specifically protesting PSE&G, one of the major co-owners of the corporation responsible for the proposed natural gas pipeline. Speakers will rally and march to PSE&G’s office, at 15 W State Street in Trenton, to urge PSE&G to withdraw their application with FERC.

“We are here to tell PennEast, PSE&G, and their partners to stop this destructive pipeline. This pipeline will not only cut an ugly scar in our valley, destroying open space, wetlands, forests, and wildlife, it will promote fracking, cause water and air pollution, as well as pose a safety threat to our communities. This is the start of our campaign to protect the Delaware River Valley from this dangerous pipeline. We will keep fighting until this pipeline is stopped,” said Jeff Tittel, Director of New Jersey Sierra Club.  “In New Jersey, 2/3 of landowners have said ‘NO’ to PennEast, as well as every town along the route. We are going to hold PennEast’s partners, like PSE&G and UGI, accountable for this pipeline. We are going to keep fighting until this pipeline is defeated no matter what it takes. This valley is our valley, it belongs to all of us. PennEast, PSE&G, and UGI, get the FERC out of our valley.”

Groups involved in the protect include New Jersey Sierra Club, Delaware Riverkeeper Network, Berks Gas Truth, and Clean Water Action.

WHEN: Tuesday, September 29th at noon

WHERE: State House Steps, 125 West State Street, Trenton, NJ
