Volunteer Opportunity With Hopewell Harvest Fair Planning Committee

by Mary Galioto

Every year, hundreds of Hopewell Valley residents look forward to attending The Hopewell Harvest Fair, a unique small-town style community tradition organized exclusively by volunteers.

This year, on  September 26, 2015, it will mark the 29th anniversary of the HHF and a few more folks are needed for the planning committee. If you have a few extra hours to spare this summer and are looking for a way to get involved in the community and make new friends, please consider joining the vibrant group.

The next meeting of the Hopewell Harvest Fair Planning Committee will be held on Wednesday, June 24th, at 7:30 PM, at the Hopewell Train Station, 2 Railroad Place, in Hopewell Borough. All who are interested in volunteering for this year’s event are invited to attend.

The following positions are open. For more information on any of them, including time commitments, please email [email protected].

Contests: The Hopewell Harvest Fair runs many contests, and as the Contest Chairperson, you will act as the liaison between the individual contest chairs and the planning committee. You’ll also oversee the setup and breakdown of the contest areas at the Fair.

Green Coordinator: As our Green Coordinator, you will organize the Fair’s recycling efforts with the Hopewell Valley Green Team, and work with the Business Alley and Exhibitors chairs on “Green Lane,” a special section of that area for sustainable businesses. You may also organize special “green” demonstrations and/or lectures.

Day of Fair Volunteers: It takes many volunteers on the day of the Fair to help make sure everything runs smoothly. If you would be interested in signing up for a slot on the day of the Fair, jobs include Fair set up, manning the Information Booth, selling ride tickets, helping man the pony rides and Fair clean up.

Revive a Discontinued Event: Country Games and the Pine Wood Derby could all return to the fair with the proper volunteer.

Suggested New Events: a dunk-tank, reading corner or pie-eating contest all also need a volunteer to own the event and planning

The Hopewell Harvest Fair is a fabulous event that brings together residents of the Hopewell Valley each year. It is also a fundraiser for a community grant program that provides support for nonprofit organizations doing important work in the Hopewell Valley. A percentage of all proceeds from the Fair go directly to the program.
Since its inception, over $200,000 has been distributed to deserving local groups.

The 2015 Hopewell Harvest Fair will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2014, from 10 AM–4 PM, on the grounds of the Hopewell Elementary School on Princeton Avenue. To learn more about the Hopewell Harvest Fair, visit www.hopewellharvestfair.org or email [email protected].
