The Hopewell Valley YMCA has announced its annual benefit will be held on June 9, 2023 at the Hopewell Valley Golf and Country Club. This year’s event will honor Mayor Paul Anzano with the 2023 Larry Rothwell Social Responsibility Award, named for Larry Rothwell of Pennington Quality Market and principal, Chris Turnbull with the Community Leadership Award.
For nearly two decades, Paul Anzano has served the community as an elected official; 16 years as Mayor of Hopewell borough, and several years serving prior, as a council member. This spring, he announced that he will not be seeking a fifth term. The YMCA thanks Paul for his service to the community and his commitment to social responsibility.
In addition to his work as an elected official, and as an attorney at Pringle, Quinn, Anzano P.C in Belmar, Paul has served as the President of the Glen Afton Civic Association and is the immediate past President of the New Jersey Brain Injury Association. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Community Health Law Project. He and his wife Christine O’Brien live in Hopewell with their daughters, Bridget and Maeve.
Chris Turnbull is currently in his eighth year as the Bear Tavern Elementary principal in Hopewell Valley (and has recently been promoted to Timberlane principal). Before joining the Hopewell Valley Community, Chris was in Lawrence Township for 16 years as a 5th-grade teacher, Middle School Social Studies Teacher, Supervisor of Humanities, and principal.
Chris attended the College of New Jersey for his undergraduate and master’s degrees and is currently attending Rider University pursuing his Doctorate in Educational Leadership.
Chris and his wife, Aimee have four children, who are active in various sports and activities in the valley. Christopher, Colin, Logan, and Maeve all attend HVRSD schools.
Mr. Turnbull was recently named the New Jersey Visionary Principal of the Year by the New Jersey Principal’s and Supervisor’s Association. He represented New Jersey as a Nationally Distinguished Principal (NDP), as recognized by the National Association of Elementary School Principals. Bear Tavern has been named a Green Flag Award, which is the National Wildlife Foundation and Eco-Schools USA’s highest award, an Advanced River Friendly School by the Watershed Institute, and a Bronze Award School by Sustainable Jersey for Schools.
Spring for the Y will celebrate 99 years of the Hopewell Valley YMCA as we start the countdown of the century. The event will take place on June 9, 2023 from 6:30 – 10:30 pm at newly renovated Hopewell Valley Golf and Country Club. Proceeds from the event support the Hopewell Valley YMCA’s Annual Campaign which provides financial assistance to families for critical before and after school programming, summer camp and youth sports and supports the Y’s free teen center, Special Olympic programming and the Hopewell Valley mobile food pantry.
