“Pennington Day is one of our community’s most beloved annual traditions. On Saturday, May 18th, 2024, join us on Main Street for this lively street fair featuring local businesses, artisans, music, food, and more. It’s a celebration of the vibrant spirit of Pennington and Hopewell Valley that you won’t want to miss.” ~ Mayor Jim Davy
No truer words could be spoken, and I say this as someone who has attended Pennington Day since I was a child. The vendors may change a little every year, but the sense of community and fellowship remains steadfast. And yes, we had some raindrops again this year (thankfully less than last year’s torrent), but the weather never stops the crowds or the action!
I started out at the Crossroads Stage area to watch the Timberlane and the CHS Jazz Bands perform. Such talent showcased!
I then headed out to visit the booths that lined Main Street, in both directions. As I chatted with people, I heard comments such as “We love Pennington Day. We come every year”, “We like the candy!” (I don’t remember if that one was from adults or children), and “It’s great to see our whole town come out to celebrate together.”
And while the food options were endless, it really wouldn’t be Pennington Day without a sausage sandwich from the Pennington Fire Company, followed by a helping of Strawberry Shortcake, served up by Robert and Beverly Mills. Delish!
Our first responders from across the Hopewell Valley and their equipment were also on display to the delight of many, and I did force my husband and his crew to pose for a picture in front of Union Fire and Rescue’s ambulance.
I also visited the quilt show that was going on at St. Matthews Church. The quilts ranged from modern to traditional, and everything in between. Definitely worth the $1 price of admission!
Continuing along Main Street, I visited vendors and non-profits alike, everyone absolutely passionate about their work.
Unfortunately, I missed the later dancing and singing acts, because I had a birthday party to get to, but I’m sure they were all amazing as usual!
Until next year…. Happy Pennington Day!
