Fraudulent Consulate Call Leads to Identity Theft
On June 4, Officer Marissa McCallum responded to an Aaron Truehart Way address for a reported identity theft and fraud. The victim reported being contacted by what they believed to be the consulate of India in New York. Personal identifying information was provided by the victim, including identification numbers and date of birth. The victim was advised to monitor their credit and banking statements closely going forward. Further information regarding the unidentified subject was provided to the officer. The investigation is ongoing.
Email Phishing Scam Results in Major Loss
Officer James Stanton met with the victim of fraud in the HTPD lobby on June 6. The victim reported receiving an email from what they thought was PayPal regarding an invoice for a purchase supposedly made on Coin Base Inc. The email was ultimately found to be fraudulent, however the victim provided a large sum of money to an unidentified party before they realized it was fraudulent. The victim responded to the email by telephone using a number shown in the email. Once contact was made, the victim provided several large transactions to an unidentified party. Currently, the victim has filed reports with their personal bank, police, and the internet crimes complaint center. The matter is under investigation.
Theft from Cash Register at Wildflowers Restaurant
On June 14, Officer Brandon Kuzma responded to Wildflowers Restaurant for a reported theft. The reporting party advised that there was a theft from the cashier drawer, which was captured on surveillance footage. The footage showed a male suspect, who was identified as a Door Dash delivery worker, at the front counter. The subject went behind the counter and removed a $50 bill from the register and left. Footage was forwarded to the investigating officer and the investigation is ongoing at this time.
Single-Vehicle DUI Crash on Mine Road
On June 15, Officer Paul Alvaro responded to Marshalls Corner and Mine Road for a reported single vehicle motor vehicle crash. The vehicle, an Audi A4, was observed with heavy front-end damage after crashing into a tree. Officers conducted an on-scene investigation. The driver exhibited signs of intoxication. He was ultimately charged with DUI and a number of motor vehicle summonses, including open container. The matter will be heard in Municipal Court.
