Items Stolen from Stop & Shop, Phishing Scheme to Local Business, and DUI in Township

Phishing Scheme Sent to Hamilton Township Business

On March 6, 2026 Officer Brandon Kuzma was assigned to conduct follow-up investigation on a fraudulent invoice that had been emailed to a business in Hamilton Township. The invoice falsely claimed to be from the Hopewell Township Planning & Zoning Department and requested payment of $15,953.00. It was determined to be an unsuccessful phishing attempt. No monetary loss was reported by the victim.

Energy Drinks and Metamucil Stolen at Stop & Shop 

Officer James Klesney was dispatched to the Stop & Shop for a report of shoplifting on March 6, 2026. Loss prevention reported that an unidentified male had entered the store on multiple occasions between Nov. 18, 2025 and March 3, 2026 and had stolen several packs of Five Hour Energy and containers of Metamucil. The individual was observed on CCTV purchasing some items while leaving other merchandise concealed in his bag without being paid for. The total value of the stolen merchandise was $699.72. The incident remains under investigation.

DUI Near Bear Tavern Road

On March 7, 2026 Officer Brandon Kuzma was dispatched to the area of Route 579 for a report of a vehicle failing to maintain its lane of travel. The vehicle was located traveling southbound in the area of Bear Tavern Road, where Kuzma observed it fail to maintain its lane and nearly strike a mailbox on the southbound shoulder. A motor vehicle stop was conducted, and signs of intoxication were detected. Field sobriety tests were administered, and the driver was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI. A search of the vehicle resulted in the location of suspected CDS. The suspect was transported to Hopewell Township Police Department headquarters and processed. She was charged with Driving Under the Influence, Possession of CDS in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Traffic on Marked Lanes, and Possession of CDS. The traffic violations will be heard at Hopewell Township Municipal Court and the criminal matter will be heard at Mercer County Superior Court.

Verizon Wire Cut

On March 9, 2026 Officer James Stanton responded to the area of Carter Road and Cleveland Road for a report of damaged cable belonging to Verizon. A Verizon employee reported that the cable had last been seen intact on March 6, 2026. The cable appeared to have been cut by an unidentified cutting instrument. The incident remains under investigation.

Apartment Building Spray Painted

Officer Tylor Blake responded to an apartment building in Pennington for a report of property damage on March 10, 2026. The building manager reported that unknown individual(s) had spray-painted the interior and exterior walls of one of the buildings. A can of blue spray paint was recovered from the scene and processed for fingerprints. No suspects have been identified at this time. The incident remains under investigation.

Warrant Arrest After Traffic Stop

On March 10, 2026 Officer Michael Crincoli was conducting routine traffic enforcement when he observed a vehicle traveling southbound on North Route 31 at a high rate of speed and initiated a motor vehicle stop. During the interaction it was revealed that the driver, had an active traffic warrant out of Cherry Hill Township. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to Hopewell Township Police Department for processing. He was later released from custody and given a new court date.
