Eleanor Wargo Edling

On September 2nd, 2026, our beloved Eleanor Wargo Edling, best known as ‘Mom-mom’, passed surrounded by the comfort of her loved ones and her pastor in her admired Hopewell Boro home. Mom-Mom was passionately proud of her Hungarian heritage and distilled her cultural traditions to those around her. Mom-mom, in her words, dedicated 47 years of service to the “best job ever” at Hopewell Elementary School where she held multiple roles but could be most remembered for her orange peeling, morning bus duty, and notorious whistling for the student’s choir concerts.

A true farmer’s daughter, she could be seen around town tending her vegetable garden and legendary tomatoes, mowing her lawn, and walking her dog, Murphy, around Hopewell. The Calvary Baptist Church community was mom mom’s passion. She deliciated endless time to the rummage sale and pierogi making, where she taught the perfection of making Hungarian pierogi dough. Mom-mom insisted the church crew “roll faster” and made sure we would spread the message and include it here; the dough requires room temperature flour.

Additionally, Eleanor was a proud member of Hopewell Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star #112, as well as Pennington Grange #64

Eleanor will rejoin her dearest late husband, Richard (Dick/ Pop-Pop) H.F. Edling, her parents Joseph and Marie (Molnar) Wargo, and her siblings Joseph, Elsie Todd, Earnest and Eugene. Her legacy will continue on through her son Richard J. Edling; her 4 granddaughters; Ashley Edling Palmisano, Corrine, Carli, Alexis Edling; and Her Great Grand Children, Ariana, Luca, Vinny Palmisano and Faye Smith. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, as well as extended family members and countless friends.

Services to celebrate Eleanor’s life will be held September 12, 2026, 11:00am at the Calvary Baptist Church, In Hopewell New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hopewell Calvary Baptist Church.  Arrangements are under the control of Blackwell Memorial Home (www.blackwellmh.com)
