‘Dangerous Women Three’ Exhibition Opens at Trenton City Museum

by Community Contributor

An exhibition featuring 90 women artists from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York will open Friday, Oct. 23, at the Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie, with a public opening reception scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24.

Dangerous Women Three (DW3), curated by Tricia Fagan, pairs contemporary women artists with notable women from history whose lives and legacies inspired their work. The exhibition features a variety of artistic styles and mediums and will remain on view through Jan. 10, 2027.

The exhibition marks the 30th anniversary of a concept Fagan first developed in 1996 for Trenton Avant Garde, Inc., which continues as a sponsor. The original show debuted at Joe’s Mill Hill Saloon before traveling to the Trenton City Museum later that year. A second exhibition was held in 2007 at The Gallery at Mercer County Community College.

This year’s exhibition brings together returning artists and new participants. Additional programming will include Performing Dangerous Women cabarets, gallery talks and panel discussions.

Fagan has worked in New Jersey’s arts and history communities for more than 30 years as a curator, writer, administrator and cultural resources consultant. Her previous roles include positions with the Mercer County Cultural and Heritage Commission, Artworks Trenton, the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and The Gallery at Mercer County Community College. She is also a founding board member of Trenton Avant Garde, Inc.

The Trenton City Museum is located in Ellarslie Mansion, an 1848 Italianate building in Cadwalader Park. The museum showcases contemporary art, local history and cultural programming.

The exhibition is free to attend, with donations welcome. Museum hours are Thursday through Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

A list of participating artists, examples of their work, details about related programs and additional visitor information are available at ellarslie.org or by calling 609-989-1191.
