The curtain is about to rise on a comedy filled with theatrical mishaps, romantic complications and plenty of slamming doors as Hopewell Valley Central High School presents Moon Over Buffalo on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 29 and 30.
The school’s fall production of Ken Ludwig’s fast-paced farce will take audiences back to the 1950s, when George and Charlotte Hay, a married pair of stage actors, are struggling to keep their fading careers — and their relationship — from falling apart.
Once accustomed to the spotlight, George and Charlotte find themselves at a crossroads, with different ideas about what their futures should hold. But an unexpected telephone call from famed Hollywood director Frank Capra offers the possibility of a career-changing opportunity.
There’s just one problem: Their marriage may not survive long enough for them to take advantage of it.
What follows is a whirlwind of backstage confusion, mistaken assumptions, theatrical chaos and physical comedy as the couple attempts to navigate a series of increasingly complicated situations.
Written by Ludwig, whose other works include Lend Me a Tenor, Moon Over Buffalo embraces the traditions of classic stage farce, where misunderstandings multiply, doors slam and even the best-laid plans quickly unravel.
The Hopewell Valley Central High School cast will bring the comedy to life in the school’s Performing Arts Center, offering audiences two evenings of entertainment and an opportunity to support the high school’s theater program.
Performances begin at 7 p.m. both nights.
