With 100% of districts reporting, but the results not yet certified by the County Clerk, long-time Councilmember Ryan Kennedy has apparently won the Democratic primary for Hopewell Borough Mayor. No Republicans ran for the seat, leaving a likely uncontested walk to the position for Kennedy in the fall.
Current Borough Mayor Paul Anzano announced his retirement earlier this year, sparking an unusual Democratic primary fight for the seat. Kennedy was challenged by Marylou Ferrara, a member of the Borough planning board and former Hopewell Township mayor. Results reported by Clarity Reporting as of Wednesday morning show Kennedy with 240 votes to Ferrara’s 207.
There were no other contested races in the Hopewell Valley, although Hopewell Borough will again see a contest in the fall when Democrats Sheri Hook and Heidi Wilenius and Republican and Council incumbent Sky Morehouse vie for two Council seats.
